Irish Lucky Penny Necklace
Irish Lucky Penny sterling silver coin necklace cast from an original nickel coin used in Ireland between 1928–1969.
Technically a thruppenny bit/threepence or a leath reul in Irish, the design was part of a set of animal coins created by artist Percy Metcalfe to symbolise the Irish free state. One side features the Irish Hare, an animal associated with luck and the words "LEAṪ REUL 3d" (its denomination) in Gaelic type. The inverse displays an Irish Harp or cláirseach. The national symbol of Ireland dating back to the 13th century, the Irish Harp is commonly seen on things like Guinness beer, Ryanair planes and Irish passports
The chain is 18" sterling silver chain and item comes gift boxed with our Catcher and Caught branding. Please specify if you prefer a satellite chain or a plain trace chain when ordering.
